Southwold

At the weekend I caught the train with Simon to his hometown and, bearing in mind all the amazing weather we've been having recently, some of Simon's friends organised to spend the day in the beach town of Southwold on Saturday. Of course, the sun didn't make an appearance and my very optimistic summer dress meant I was rather chilly by the end of the day!
Despite the grey clouds, we made the most of the trip and busied ourselves with a pub lunch. A few of us visited a little group of vintage stalls in beach huts and later everyone got involved in a game of cricket on the beach. Well... maybe not everyone, I've never been the best at sports.
The beach huts would have looked a lot prettier in the sun, but I took a few photos anyway (what kind of blogger would I be if I didn't?!).
Have you been to Southwold?

Blueberry and Sour Cream Loaf

When I was staying at my mum's a couple of weekends ago, I fancied baking something new. I'm a bit fed up with cupcakes now and I settled on this blueberry and sour cream loaf from the Hummingbird Bakery Cake Days book. I love fresh blueberries in cake, and this loaf made a really nice pudding after a summery barbecue. It was an easy peasy recipe and you can find it here.
I've been giving the 5:2 Diet a go for the past month and I think it works pretty well for me... but looking at these cake photos on a fast day is torture!
Has anyone else tried the 5:2 Diet?

Sunshine Capital

This weekend was the sunniest of the sunny. Actually, I may have complained to Simon on more than one occasion that I was melting. I'm finally cooling down a little now, but let's just say that the packed train home with no air con earlier was NOT the highlight of my day.
Last night we had a barbecue at my flat to bid farewell to my friend Tasha who is moving back up north (sob), and my housemate butterflied a whole chicken which was incredible.
Today Simon and I had big plans to watch the tennis on the big screen at Tower Bridge, but they fell flat when we saw how packed it was! Instead, we wandered to Green Park and relaxed under the shade of a tree. A little a bit of an anticlimax but still lovely.
Last week Simon found out that he has a permanent job where he's been interning for the past month (yipee!) so we can now properly start the hunt for our first flat together. Wish us luck!
How was your weekend?

Bits and Pieces

Finally, a nice weekend! Instead of feeling bitter about not being at Glastonbury (Simon went, how frustrating is that?!) I drove to my mum's for the weekend. We walked the dog, had a couple of barbecues and even watched a bit of Glastonbury on television. Who needs muddy fields anyway when you can see it from a warm sofa? Hmph.
